Where to Put a Cat Tree at Home

Location has a big influence on whether a cat tree becomes a favorite spot. Many cats enjoy being near household activity while still having a place to observe from a comfortable distance. A corner of a living room or a spot near a frequently used window can work well. Watch your cat’s existing routines: a preferred resting place or regular lookout can offer useful clues.

Choose a level surface and leave enough space around the tree for your cat to approach and turn. Keep it clear of doors, narrow walkways, and objects that could fall if bumped. If the tree is tall or your cat jumps with enthusiasm, follow the maker’s assembly instructions and use any recommended wall attachment. Stability matters more than finding the tallest possible view.

Avoid placing a retreat beside loud appliances or in a spot where people constantly pass close by, especially for a shy cat. You can make a new location more appealing by adding familiar bedding or a toy and letting your cat investigate at their own pace. If the tree goes unused, try a different position before assuming your cat dislikes the furniture. Small changes in view, noise, or access may make a difference.
